I am a permanent, full-time proofreader at a law firm in Stamford, Connecticut. I am also a freelance proofreader, editor, and published writer.
All of the above. For me, all these events count as networking, improving my public speaking skills, meeting new people, and having fun.
"I'm a traditional silversmith & jewelry designer with 8 years' experience. I'm also a black-and-white fine artist photographer, use fully manual 35mm cameras with natural light; & have 29 years of traditional darkroom experience."
Before I landed my current fulltime job as a proofreader, at a local company where I am very happy, I gained a lot of knowledge from others more experienced in my field at each and every Aquent Meetup. I found expertise, encouragement, and sound advice in a friendly atmosphere. A member of Aquent's graphic arts talent pool found, in the classified section of a local newspaper, the job ad which led to my present employment. I never know where I will find useful information. In this case that came from someone who is not my own field! I would recommend the Aquent Meetup Group as a great place to network, to take the pulse of the industry, and to meet other talented and experienced people.
