Where did the summer go? For those of you who stayed back. And I must say, this has been a very interesting year; not only as designers and creatives but for the entire industry. To some this is the first recession experience, while to those seasoned it is just a repeat of history - another challenge to overcome and to supercede. We are going to kick-start the end of summer with Prospecting Freelancer 2009. A repeat to a new beginning:
This is our third year coming. The objective is to get you engaged like how you were in Billable Hours with Mike McDerment. And how you filled the room in last year's Prospecting Freelancer when Angela Matich shared her lifetime experiences to the group.
This year, on October - a Tuesday night (October 20th) our community will undergo through yet another transformation. For those of you who are just getting into the industry or simply been in the industry for awhile, but want to experience the prospecting side of becoming a freelancer - this is the event for you. It sure is!! I am serious.
We are respectfully honoured to have with us a piece of history; guest freelancer - a noted documentary photographer - George S. Zimbel. A resident of Montreal, our guest; George will share his life experience since the age of 14; since his first local assignment; since his first exhibition which included the "New York Harbor, 1947"; since his extensive career working for The New York Times, Redbook, the Saturday Review and Architectural Forum and series of worldwide exhibitions and collections at the Photography Gallery in London, the Houston Museum of Fine Art, the IVAM in Spain and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. His photographs are permanent collections of MoMA (Museum of Modern Art).
This just the beginning, Zimbel shot and captured Jacqueline and John Kennedy, portraits of Politicians like Eisenhower and Nixon. His 70 year run hasn't stopped him from shooting Obama and first Lady Michelle. Zimbel's images include celebrity work of Marilyn Monroe and he was the official photographer of the Queen landing in Canada.
After 6-decade run, Zimbel was awarded in 2000 a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Canadian Photographers in Communication. Entering his 7th decade, Zimbel continues to produce new work and print previously unseen images from his archive. His activity reflects his feeling that creative people speed up as they get older because of backlog of ideas and projects, along with the realization time is finite.
With finite of time, we have this year's Prospecting Freelancer 2009. George will share his diverse and enthusiastic background to our community, detailed with a massive hub of knowledge to our daily hurdles as designers, as freelancers and as upcoming Prospecting Freelancers.
On Tuesday, October 20th our group will undergo new gaged and thriving opportunities. We will charter the opportunity to meet other artists like yourselves and engage in their experiences. We will share thoughts and tips in becoming a successful and innovative Prospecting Freelancer. By night's, end a short questionnaire will be handed out to document your challenges as a Prospecting Freelancer and what type of initiatives you would be interested to see or provided to our industry.
This discussion is a wonderful opportunity for members to collaborate and engage themselves into open discussions in preparation for the busy season. So let me remind you, this is a limited seating event. Please RSVP Yes based that you are coming out and RSVP No if you cannot or have other plans. There is no maybe's for this event and meet up, sorry!
