Drupal vs. Wordpress vs. Joomla vs....why use one rather than the other? What does this mean for your front end and back end development? What's the difference in functionality? All these questions and more will be addressed when Alex Costa speaks to us about his recent experience with Drupal and Colt Taylor will take the Microsoft side (DotNetNuke etc.) I will be contacting Wordpress experts to attend as well so we can have an interesting roundtabel discussion on this very relevant topic. If you have questions you would like to see addressed, please forward them to me at mwsmith@aquent.com See you at the Parrot!

Michael Curry will be our featured speaker this month and he will be showing off some of his latest work with Ajax and other technologies. I also invite those of you that have been doing some interesting things to come out and show off your work and get some instant feedback from the group. Oh yeah, and have one heck of a good time as usual. Here is how Mike describes his presentation:
Our interaction online has changed dramatically over the last 2 years, mainly because we have started collectively to understand the capabilities of AJAX design and social networking.
But still at the heart of any internet programming practice is HTML. Although newer browsers and upgraded CSS versions have steadily improved the visual experience - the interaction experience of basic HTML elements has just recently seen improvements. JavaScript libraries such as prototype and jQuery have become ideal tools to help cure this gap between development possibilities and user interaction but the most significant improvements have come through simple re-evaluation of how we could use our basic html elements.

In this session we will go over:
What Ajax and Media Interaction Principles can mean for you and your projects
We will go over some of the most exciting web applications and the HTML elements that make them
A few projects of my own where I will walk through my general thought process on spotting an improvement, attacking, testing, QA, and troubleshooting.

What have you done in the past 6 months to pursue your goals, dreams, and ideas? What’s the biggest obstacle not allowing you to achieve them? I doubt it’s the lack of talent or imagination.

August additional Meetup is all about making your Sugar Plums, dance and bring them to live!

Marvin Greenhut, worldwide inventor of the glue pen, glitter pen, stewardess set for children, a cell phone with a fingerprint scanner to let women check suitors' criminal backgrounds; a barbecue kit with aluminum foil shaped to drain fat, among many other inventions….Claims to have been a poor boy with ideas and invented his way to financial freedom.

Besides being President and Vice- President of the Inventor Society of South Florida for several years. Greenhut spends his time sharing his secret to success and helping others to push the envelope to act on your goals, STOP DAYDREAMING! He’s absolutely right.

I had the privilege of meeting Marvin at an event, the audience loved his words of wisdom and looking-forward mentality. At the very young age of 80, this man has more energy and enthusiasm than a 21 year old drinking vodka and red bull at a night club.

Mr. Greenhut will cover how to make money using your talent, pursuing your ideas, how to promote yourself, spot opportunities, invent your way out of this bull-crap economy while pursuing your goals.

He was thrilled to hear about that this group is made up of creative individuals, as much as I was excited to hear that he would love to speak to us.

We are meeting in a new Dunkin Donuts facility, which by the way it’s very cool. Free WIFI, computers and internet to use. We reserved a special meeting room, the capacity is limited so RSVP soon to save your leather chair.

Mickey Moran just called me and will be unable to give her talk tomorrow night because of an illness. We wish her all the best and a speedy recovery. Now then, what shall we do tomorrow? I know Marcos Moralez from Open Sports may be there along with other folks that are in the biz. I was thinking of having Marcos talk about his day to day at a constantly changing online sports site and maybe some of the new technologies they may be using. Then we can turn it into a Q&A amongst all of us and even have others show off their sites or other interesting work they are doing. I'm sorry gang, we haven't had the best luck with keeping our speakers but we always seem to have a good time anyway so come on out and enjoy meeting some new people!

Today’s landscape of competitive design requires a new breed of thinker. Solutions-minded individuals who can easily cross the once distinct, left-brain, right brain boundaries. The proliferation of RIAs and 2.0 apps cause the need for specialized roles to be replaced with cross-disciplinary functions, such as the “Devigner” (Developer/Designer). But how does a team of cross-functional minds work in today’s adhocracy? Mickey Moran, User Experience (UX) Strategist, Interaction Design (IxD) Professional and Creative Director, will talk abouttoday’s new breed of mavericks and how to merge these cultures into successful design teams. Bring your questions and links and the group can give feedback on your latest work or personal site. It should be fun; it always is. :-)
